Moonlight (solo voice and cello): Coming soon!
Performed by Carrie Henneman Shaw, soprano; Joel Salvo, cello

Moonlight Suzanne Asher
Still, in the shadows of the night,
I gaze beyond a window pane,
ground in blue, naked to the moon,
awed by the glancing wax and wane,
shocked by the stark and ghostly white.

Light! I'm split by a blinding boon,
my grain is turned to ash and bones.
It's not for me to see! I stare
through a void of gossamer tones,
"Where, o Death, is my spirit's rune?"

Soon, wounding glints enchant the air…
confounding the passions of rude
desires . . . with ambiguity.
"Whose touch could soothe the solitude
my mortal hands alone must share?"

But dare . . . if night is light's eternity,
glowing beyond the dark embrace
of eerie midnights lost to love,
silver the webs of dawn with grace . . .
I will not fear Life's vanity.
